Job Summary
Curro Holdings is seeking to appoint a foundation phase head at Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel in Roodepoort. The foundation phase head is responsible for managing all phase administration through the effective application of Curro policies and procedures as adapted and customised to the needs of the school. To ensure high standards of teaching and learning practice, the foundation phase head is also responsible for the active teaching, knowledge transfer, skills development and growth of positive attitudes among learners through integrated and focused teaching approaches and dialogue with teachers. In addition, the role involves teaching and coordinating specific subjects as per the Curro curriculum for the foundation phase.
Job Description
- Perform teaching duties, including planning lessons using modern-day tools and processes, setting up workbooks and measuring academic improvement and achievement
- Manage the phase administration and academics, including annual and termly plans and timetables, staff duties, subject changes, communication, marketing and budgeting
- Manage the phase curriculum via pre- and post-rollout reviews, checks and moderation
- Manage and mentor grade heads, including interviews, appraisals, mediation and training
- Manage interventions and disciplinary processes according to Curro policies and procedures and the code of conduct
- Plan and manage events
- Manage and coordinate extramural activities
- Plan and manage classrooms, including classroom/learning environment design and set-up for optimal performance, disciplinary rules and communication with learners and parents
- Plan and manage assessments (formal and continuous) and homework, including rosters, moderation, revision and supervision
Key Skills / Requirements
- BEd degree and/or PGCE in foundation phase education
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a foundation phase head
- Knowledge of the CAPS curriculum
- Proven management and leadership skills
- Ability to lead and mentor other teachers
- Excellent communication, organisational and planning skills
- Willing and able to work overtime and weekends and to be involved in school activities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- SACE-registered
- Clear criminal record
